Timeout after Login...

Why does I have to wait when I log into an account which has
mapped network drives in explorer, which point to a computer
that is in STANDBY mode... It lasts very long until my
desktop appears, seems to be a 'timeout'. Can I switch it
off?
Thanx for any help...
