title blacks out part way through

The title is at the start of the movie and is text created using Movie Maker
title feature. The text animation is "scroll, perspective" like the opening
of the Star Wars movies and is about 48 seconds long. I'm using video effects
of "slow down, half" and "fade out, black". It blacks out after about 24
seconds even though the audio continues. The entire movie is about 8 minutes
and is composed of scanned pictures and audio. Another odd thing I noticed is
that the elapsed and total time shown on the monitor when the movie plays is
38 min. even though the movie is only 8 minutes. Thanks for any help.

If you remove the "fade out" transition option does it play through
properly?
Also do you have the title over an image or video clip or before anything
else on the timeline?
If I want a title to appear before my clips I generally will create an image
that is simply a solid color and place that first in the timeline then add
the title as an overlay over that image.
Maybe try that and see if it works the way you want.
