Too long period for starting up.

Hi All,
I got a problem with my Windows XP Pro(SP1) system,
it used to be OK until this morning.
After I start Windows, clicked user name from the
logon list on welcome screen, only wallpaper shows
on the screen( without any icons and system tray), and
it seems system keep idle, this will keep for about 4
minutes before all icons and system tray comes out.
It is unbelievable the system starts need so long time.
I tried installed latest bootvis and optimized it,
the problem keeps.
Then I tried to restore to a point of the day before yesterday using XP's
system restore and restart ,
the problem persists.
Then I formated the Windows XP partion, restored
saved XP partion image to this partion using
Symantec Ghost, after I restored, the problem is
still existing. (The HD is 80G, I set it
to 5 partions, The XP partion is C drive and
it is a primary partion, I kept a XP partion image
in other partion, and the image shall be OK because I
used it before.
I have another 40G HD and I also installed same
WinXP Pro, I changed the hard disk to 40G one, system
works OK.)
I guess this may be caused by virus, anyway I scanned all disks and no
virus found. The scanning tool is
Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 2003 Pro, I also live updated it to the latest.

Anyone's help will be appreciated.

Regards
Steven

Thanks Kevin,
My PC is a home PC and it connects to ADSL directly, I checked the
event view and found there is a error on perf??.dll, I disabled the
service and restart again, the problem persists. I met this problem before,
what I did to resolve this problem was to format the hard disk and reinstall
everything and this problem dispeared. Anyway, this time my hard disk is
80G which contains many very important stuff, and to reinstall everything
will take a long time.
I want to know if there is a tool that can be used to monitor the system
starts and record down the modules loaded and loaded time in a log file.
Any further help are appreciated.

Regards
Steven.
