Too many folders

Posted: 11-04-2003, 12:44 AM
Why are there so many folders in "Documents and
Settings"? I am the only person using this PC and it is
home-networked to a WinME PC, again only used by me. I'm
not planning to share either PC with anyone, would it be
safe to erase these folders? It's so damn hard to
something, have to look through every folder to find what
I'm looking for.

Can't even find the XP updates or the Temporary Internet
Files.

Would removing these folders cause any problems?

Create shortcuts, use the Search function, sort and name your
documents in a meaningful way.

---> "C:\Documents and Settings\your username here\Local

I'm having the SAME problem and hate it. I'm the only who goes into Windows
Explorer and yet have to cope with all these excess useless folders no one
is using - give me W98SE anyday.

"give me W98SE anyday"
win98 had lots of files that were useless.
when i changed to winXP i did not look back.
XP is much more stable and is not as flat as 98.
for instance 98 had easter eggs and XP does not have any
easter eggs(or as yet unknown)

I don't speak for Smiths, and Smiths doesn't speak for me.

The useless folders where everything is stored in
triplicate. Admin and All Users and Username and
username/PC name and PC name. If there is only one user
why are there so many useless folders beyond what is
needed?

This folder doesn't seem to exist where you indicated. I
can find my cookies but not the TIF.

It's hidden. Use Internet Options> General> Temporary Internet Files to
clear these temp files out -or- set Folder Options> View to show hidden
files and folders.

** I didn't say FILES - I said FOLDERS in Windows Explorer. Why are there 6
folders already in My Documents? I don't want or need them there. There's
another two at the bottom of the tree called Shared Documents and Owner
Documents. Shared? With who? Why two documents folders? And when you
check something in WE you can't GO BACK to the folder-tree but must close
the program and reopen it again - an annoying waste of time. Neither the UP
or Back button takes to back the the folder-tree. And there are 4 removable
disks in the tree - H,I, J and K..... believe me I like W98SE a lot more
than XP. The few things I do like is how easy and fast the digital camera
unloads and the thumbnails for pictures. That's about it. I can't use my
EZ-CD creator on this PC as it wont work on XP, nor will my little Intel
Cam. The XP 'find all files and folders' is slower than molasses. On W98
it's quick. I have a 2.6 Ghz processor on this PC with 512 MB ram and it
crawls compared to W98SE running on a PC with only 900 Mhz CPU and 256 MB
ram. I scandisk and do all the SAME maintenance on THIS PC with XP as we do
on the others.

** Stable in what way? We have very little trouble with W98 on our other
PCs. We maintained them with scan-disk, defrag, spy-bot (which wont work on
XP) Add-Aware and Norton System works (WinDr.). I have no idea what you
mean by flat.
> for instance 98 had easter eggs and XP does not have any
> easter eggs(or as yet unknown)
** Whatever they are. We never saw any on our other PCs.
