transfering files

I have files on windows 98 and want to tansfer them to
windows xp. I had them on a floppy and when i brought
them in they saved to wordpad and they are not readable
as is. What do I do to recover these so I can use them.

What kind of files are they? You need to have the application in which they
were created installed on your system in order for them to be opened and
viewed. This is not a function of the operating system, it's a function of
the application.
