Transferring files from Vista to XP

Posted: 12-04-2007, 11:52 PM
I have been transferring jpg files from my Vista computer to a XP computer
and now my files have become corrupted. Is there anyway to recover the
corrupted jpg files? Is there anyway to prevent this from happening again?

You forgot to tell us how you transferred the files. You also forgot to
tell us what version of Vista you're using. If you have Business or
Ultimate, you can restore the deleted files. See Vista's Help for the
process. If you Moved the files across a network instead of Copying (and
this is why Copying instead of Moving is A Good Thing), then restore the
files from backup. If you have no backup, data recovery software may be
able to find the files for you.

I copy and pasted the jpgs. I have vista home premium.
Unfortunately the files are not recoverable because they are corrupt.

I'm sorry to hear that. Unless you have the originals in good shape, I'm
afraid your data is lost. There's no way for me to tell why this
happened from what you've posted.

I'm sorry I was unable to help you.

I do appreciate your help.
I contacted my computer manufacturer and they referred me to Microsoft.
Microsoft referred me to these message boards. I guess they can't figure it
out either. All I really know is that the files worked fine for about 4 weeks
and then went corrupt. Only files copied from my Vista computer were
affected. My easy remedy is to upload the pictures from my camera onto both
computers seperatly. The bottom line is that I would like to fix the problem
that occurred. Seems like Microsoft should be more interested in what
happened but, they are not. I would hate to think that this might happen to
someone else. I am open to discuss any further detail if it would be helpful
to anyone.
