Trouble getting sound/modem

After trying to plug and play my AIPTEK webcam on my
computer the computer went out on me and I now can't get
sound and my modem will not work despite the hardward
properties indicating it works properly and I went through
all the troubleshooting steps for both devices. And I
dowloaded the service packs to get these devices working
and so far no sounds and modem to work on Windows
Professional XP...on the same computer both the sounds and
modem works on Windows 98SE. Any solutions? Do I need
to re-install my Windows XP?
