troubles with cd RW

in my new DVD recorder , SONY, that writes +- & RW , both
DVD and CD's, I am having troubles with erasing CD RW's.
It doesn't allows it. MY systm opereation is XP
Professional. Also I tried to instal Nero and this
software doesn't find a recorder device !! Please What can
I do??
