Turning off Indexing

Hi, when i installed vista i found that it was deadly slow...I turned off
the indexing and now it flys! not sure if you all know this but just wanted
to give my experience with this.

If you don't mind, I would like how you did that.
VIsta is really slow for me too and I am getting sick of it.

Please explain how you did this.

I already removed it from the list of startup applications, I can't access
"adjust my indexing options," and from Windows Defender I don't have the
option to end task, and can't find it in Task Manager, even by trying to
identify it's Process ID - however, Defender DOES identify it as a currently
running program.

Thanks in advance - I tried to disable indexing yesterday, but couldn't and
forgot about it until I saw this thread =]

Indexing is quite a hog at first, especially when you're constantly
installing new applications, etc. But once you've settled and are into
using the machine normally the indexer plays much less a role. If you're
making constant changes to the file system on a daily basis then it will
always be a little rough and the slower the computer the longer the index
can take.

I'm not sure what the effect is besides slower searches but if that's all no
big deal. I'm sure someone more in the know can elucidate on this point.

You don't mention the version of Vista are you testing, but, some versions
have been known to run much slower than others.

To turn off indexing, go to computer, right click your C drive, left click
properties. At the bottom of the properties box you will see a box to enable
or disable indexing on the drive. Remove the check mark and apply to all
files and sub folders. If you get errors on some files click the ignore
button. It does take a few minutes to turn off. Hope this helps....

I did exactly that but every time windows starts in the System performance
rating I'm still getting that Microsoft indexer is causing a slow boot. any
ideas how to remove this? It helped a lot in the perfomance of the pc but
still needs working.

Im working in a P4 2.8Ghz 1GB ram and 300GB sata hard drive, Haven't
conected my other hard drives, or any software and drivers.
