Default two "Administrator" accounts

There is a user on my computer called Administrator. It is in the
administrator group, but not the users group. It is disabled. After a
restart, and only after a restart, I get a message saying something like
"password is incorrect" prior to the log on screen. At the log on screen,
there are two icons for a user called Administrator in addition to all the
users I am used to dealing with. This is odd, because there is no other
evidence of two users called Administrator anwhere else. I can log on as
Administrator, but if I log off I cannot log back on until I restart the
computer. I have created two new accounts in the administrator group also,
but they are not named "Administrator" and they are also in the users group.

I think this has something to do with me creating a new account and calling
it "Administrator" shortly after setting up Vista, but my memory of this is
unfortunately hazy and I can't recall exactly what happened.

Does anybody know if I have any reason for concern?
Does anybody know why there are two users called "Administrator" listed on
the log on screen? It makes me nervous.

Hi Jtruslow,

You may have turned on the "Real Built-in Administrator" account. You
might try turning it off while logged in to one of your other
Administrator accounts that is not names "Administrator". This tutorial
will show you how.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I just set up a customers new Laptop with Vista Home Premiun. I created an
account for him and one for his wife. Both Admin Accounts, after the computer
was rebooted there are now 4 user accounts on the login page, 2 for the
husband and 2 for the wife. This is the first time I have seen this happen
and I have set up alot of Vista PCs. What is up with this? When I look at the
users accounts under control panel I only see the 2 user accounts.

This is a common problem on a laptop that has a built-in fingerprint reader
and the OminiPass fingerprint reader software installed.

The solution that has been seen to work is to uninstall and then reinstall
the OmniPass software.

Your welcome.

Please let us know the results you get if this resolves the problem. We need
more detailed documentation on this particular issue. Post back to this

Hello Ronnie,
Sorry to take so long to get back to you, but I have been super busy. I
contacted OmniPass and you do not have to uninstall the OmniPass Software. I
downloaded this file, www.softexinc.com/download/UninstMSPwdProv.exe - ran it
re-booted and I only had the 2 ADMIN Accounts I wanted. this seems to be a
problem with OmniPass Version 5.00.18 and Vista update, It has been addressed
and fixed in Version 5.00.75 which will fix the issue. If you don't the next
time you do a Windows Update with Vista you may get the same doubled user
accounts again.

Default Re: two "Administrator" accounts

UPDATE INFO: Hi Ronnie, This issue is an older OEM issue and a Vista update
issue. This was fixed in newer versions of OmniPass but I am not sure if
Fujitsu is actually shipping newer versions of OmniPass. Fujitsu has a lot of
OEM limitations and restrictions per their request. People may want to look
into the upgrade program to get the latest OmniPass 5 GENERIC Version 5.00.75
which has not OEM limitations and restrictions and has a lot of enhancements
and updates as well. To fix this issue copy the link
www.softexinc.com/download/UninstMSPwdProv.exe into your browser, select save
and save the file to your HDD before running it. After you run it re-boot
your computer and this should fix your issue. However please note that this
will more then likely come back after other Vista Updates and Fujitsu OEM
version is an older version.
