| I have a Sony Vaio, FE series notebook, 1gb ram, 100gb hd, running core duo processors. The current os is XP Pro with 2005 media center. My notebook is listed as vista capable and the vista pre-installer verifies I am compatible. After downloading 32bit ISO and successfully burning a disk, I cannot finish install. Once I get to the point checking for upgrades, I get a run-time error. Any suggestions? | Guest

| Mike, Look down in the postings here and check your disk or download with the MD5 checksum site. This will tell you if your download was truely viable and workable. Otherwise, if you are technically capable of formatting your disk and then attempting to load Vista to it. I recommend that download all the drivers from Sony's support web site for XP and Vista where possible and have your resoration CD handing in case the install w/ Vista doesn't work out. SAVE YOUR DATA!!!! good luck! "mike4660" wrote: Quote:

| Hello. I am unable to install Vista. I get the following error message, "Close Windows installation and contact the device manufacturer for updated driver software for these devices: SCSI and RAID controllers: HDS725050KLA360" Dell support says I can't upgrade to Vista. Hitachi, the maker of the HDS725050KLA360 says no driver is needed and go ahead and install Vista. I can't, the installer won't go any further. Any ideas? | Guest

| What model Dell is it? What install is looking for is not drivers for the Hitachi hard drive itself, but for the controller on the motherboard. | nVidia storage controller for the SATA hard drives I believe the XPS has. However, I can't determine exactly which nVidia controller it is. http://support.dell.com/support/down...os=WLH&osl=EN# <- you need to add that last character. Dell has Vista drivers for the XPS 600 on their website. Installing Vista in the first place is the hard part - the SATA controller drivers need to be on a floppy, cd, or USB drive during install (Load Drivers button). -- Jane, not plain 64 bit enabled :-)Batteries not included. | Scotts, I'd call Dell Support again and tell them "The hell I can't!" I have to agree with Jane, the hard drive itself has absolutely nothing to do with this not being able to install, the controller of this hard drive is what causing the problem. Dell know to have this problem of going from one version of Windows to the next. I had a similar problem going from XP Media to XP Pro (clean install), so I have to slipstream XP CD with SP2 in order to install XP Pro. Thus far, you can't do that yet, you would have to install the controller manually as described by Jane. "ScottS" wrote: Quote:
