Default Unable to set up internet connection.

I am trying to get windows Xp pro to recognise my internet
connection, which is via a cable modem connected to the
ethernet port. The problem, i believe is due to the way
that Xp is recognising my motherboard. The motherboard is
an Asus A7N8X deluxe. It has Firewire as well are 2
ethernet ports, One adaptor is 3com the other is Nidia.
From the network connections window under control panel,
it displays there are 3 LAN connections. I have tried
disabling 2 of the LAN connections, so only 1 is active,
this still has no effect.
I have also tried to connect the modem via USB, of which
the motherboard has 4 sockets, again it seems to set up
correctly, then displays that connection as a 4th LAN
connection, yet i still can't gain access to the internet.

I know the modem is fine as i have had it working on other
PC which was also running windows Xp pro. Only difference
with that is that there are no on board ethernet adaptors,
the adaptor is a seperate PCI card.

Is there anyway of setting within the internet options
which LAN should be used? I believe if this can be done,
then it would sort out the problem.

Any help/suggestion would be appreciated.

thanks

Default Re: Unable to set up internet connection.

Another theory you might want to pursue is that the ISP is tracking the MAC
address of the PC you signed up with. When you switched PC's, it might be
possible that the ISP is blocking you because your PC with 3+ LAN adapters
is being blocked because it doesn't have the right MAC address.

You should call your ISP to see if they are blocking you.
