Unable to do a User Backup - Error #1805

Posted: 07-25-2004, 03:16 AM
I'm hoping someone might be able to tell me why I cannot
complete a user backup. I get to about 15% when I receive
this message: Error #1805 Error writing to image file.
Also, is it common for a user backup to be EXTREMELY
SLOW? It takes about an hour to complete 15%. I have a 1
GHz AMD Athlon Processor.

What backup software are you using?

Debbie,

This problem is seen with the User Backup feature in Compaq PCs (if so?), Please contact Compaq Technical support to resolve the problem. Insufficient space in the System_Save D:\ partition is one of the known causes.

I have been trying to do a user backup with the Recovery
CD from Compaq that came with my computer.

If the problem does stem from not having enough room in
my D partition, is it safe to delete items from there?

Thank you for the info. I guess I'll have to contact
Compaq Tech Support because I just checked, and according
to info in my system tools, I have 68% free space in my
System_Save D:\ partition. Debbie

Debbie,

You're welcome. This particular 1805 problem is very annoying (me as a past Compaq tech person) and many people had to do a Full Restore to resolve the issue. (One area you can verify the error code is the PowerQuest's Master Error Code list, as Compaq QuickRestore process is powered/provided by PowerQuest - DriveImage.)

Here are my standard recommendations:

1. Make sure there is sufficient space in the D:\ partition, so as to place the User Backup image
2. Make sure you move out all the 'already compressed' files (such as mp3, zip etc), as the User Backup process can't compress those files further more (and exhibit the error message indicated)

There may be other possibilities and solutions when you contact the Compaq Support team.
