Unaccessible partition
Posted: 07-25-2004, 05:21 AM
I have a computer with two HDs. One is in the primary channel as master (160
Gig). The secondary channel is taken by a DVD burner (master) and a CD
burner (slave). The second hard drive (60 Gig) is in the primary channel of
my motherboard's RAID alone.
In the first drive I have installed Win XP, along with three other OSs (DOS,
Win 3.11, and Linux). The Raid drive only holds one OS (FreeBSD), but only
in half of the disk, which is partitioned in two. The "empty" partition is
formatted NTFS, and shows up in Win XP as drive "D".
I used to access drive D all right and throw there some files from time to
time. Now, all of a sudden it is not accessible. Explorer gives the error:
"Drive not ready", and Partition Manager the error: "Partition table is
bad". With this last message I got very worried. However, I have checked the
partition table with three tools (Ranish Partition Manager, DFSee, and the
Partition Magic rescue disks themselves), and the partition table is all
right.
I am now almost sure this is a Win XP issue, as I have updated all there is
to update, even the chipset drivers. My motherboard is an ASUS A7V333. I
have repaired Win XP with the result only of messing up my device drivers.
Any help you can give me will be appreciated.
Teilhard.
