Default Unattended Installation

Hi, I've recently completed three MCPs so far and I was
curious on how to do an unattended installation of XP on
my home computer. So far I have noticed that the
installation is not reading the floppy drive. Now I have
checked the hardware and that's not an issue because if I
leave the disk in I will get a boot error saying that it
needs a command interpreter. I used the setupmanager to
create the unattend.txt and .bat files. I then copied
these files to the floppy disk and then ran XP. It still
skips over the floppy disk during installation. I have
looked on Microsoft's website and found no help. If
anyone has hands on experience please let me know a better
way.

Default Unattended installation

Hi all

I am trying to create an XP image and according to Microsoft's Article
Q302577

"The Sysprep.inf file must reside in the same location as Sysprep.exe and
Setupcl.exe. These Sysprep files can exist either in the
%systemdrive%\Sysprep folder (located on the hard disk of the destination
computer), or on a floppy disk.

If you run Sysprep.exe from the %systemdrive%\Sysprep folder, Sysprep.exe
removes the entire folder and its contents after it finishes running."

This is basically what I do for my Win 2000 Pro images and it works a treat
but if I try to do the same for an XP image, it fails to read the
Sysprep.inf file altogether.

The Sysprep.inf file is created using XP's version (I forget the version but
it is found in the Support folder of the XP CD) and after running sysprep
I'd click on Reseal. Reboot the PC and it should read sysprep file but it
doesn't. It kinda half work because the Sysprep folder gets deleted but it
just doesn't read the sysprep.inf file. I have tried using other file
extensions- .txt, .ini and .sif but no avail.

I would appreciate if anyone could help me on this problem as this is
driving me up the wall.

TIA

MC,
You need to specify the -MINI option for the sysprep.inf
file to used.
Run sysprep from the command line: SYSPREP -MINI -QUIET -
RESEAL -RESTART
-Stephan

Default Unattended Installation

I have multiple Dell SX-260 client machines on the network
and want to upgrade them to Windows XP. I have installed
RIS on our DHCP server and it is authorized. The problem
I'm running into is that the client (pxe-enabled) connects
to the ris server, to start the installation, a blue
screen comes up saying that the OS image I have does not
contain the necessary drivers for the NIC card. Is there
any way I can get past this problem? The NIC card is also
not supported by the rbfg disk either. The card is an
Intel Pro 1000 series NIC. I've tried updating the
Unattend.txt and remboot.sif with different paths and no
luck so far. Please help

Thank you,

Joel

Check his article, there is a section how to add drivers to unattended
setup.
