Are you using the wireless router as DHCP server? Some wireless router may have issues with Vista. This link may help,

my wireless network is not the problem.it works perfectly.i have a dlink
media lounge setup for watching videos on the tv.it is connected from the
ethernet card on my pc into the dlink unit.with xp dchp found this and my
videos played perfectly.now it appears as an unidentified network and when it
does connect it stays on for only a few seconds.

Sounds like you might be connecting to a neighbors wireless network. Do you
have a wireless router set up with a secure password? Wireless is not free
over the airways. You must set up a wireless router or an access point and
then secure it with strong WPA password. When you plug into an ethernet port,
you are not using wireless at all. It uses your ethernet card instead. Your
Vista computer is trying to use the wireless card. Look for help in Network &
Sharing Center on the Vista computer or research Wireless Networking on the
Vista Help site. Or simply disable the wireless card and use the ethernet
connection. You don't say how you connect to the Internet--what kind of
broadband modem you have.

enabled to connect to the internet and that is giving me no problems at all.i
have a dlink media lounge set up to play video files on my tv.i have this
plugged in from the ethernet card in my pc into the dlink unit.vista set this
as a seperate connection from my wireless one.the connection says
unidentified and my video files play for a few seconds and then it
disconnects.

the best solution is to plug the medialounge into the router and not
have it directly connected to your PC.

if you don't reconfigure this way, when you look at the two network
connections on the Vista machine, are they both set to private and
is file sharing and media sharing on? What IP addresses are these
using? You can avoid these issues by plugging the medialounge into
the router.

are you using the D-Link application or "native" Windows Media
Sharing? With everything on the same network it may still work
without any changes OR you set it up again. with everything on the
same network, it should be pretty easy.
