Unknown Device in Device Manager (both x86 and x64)

Posted: 11-10-2006, 06:37 PM
In Device Manager under both x86 and x64 there is one item listed under Unknown Devices.

Everything I have, both internal and external, seems to be working properly and listed under the
various categories of Device Manager as working correctly.

Is there any way to determine what this device might be?

My computer starts, restarts, turns off, sleeps, and hibernates correctly.
Might this be a component of the motherboard?

Quite possibly the Game Controller on your sound card.

No Game Controller on my sound card (Creative XFi)
The Enumerator on the Details tab is ACPI
Cannot recognize any on the other items on the Details tab
Have searched Microsoft.com for some of the strings listed and can't find anything
I thought it might be the Sleep button on my keyboard, but it works correctly

Darrell,

Details tab Hardware ID (Vista):
ACPI\AWY0001
*AWY0001

In XP Device Manager, View, Devices by Connection, ACPI Multiprocessor PC, Microsoft ACPI Compliant
System

There is an entry for MS ArACPI Driver that is not in Vista x86 or X64 with the same
Hardware ID:
ACPI\AWY0001
*AWY0001

Regards,
DCR

Only YOU know what is physically installed in your computer and what is not
working as it should.

In my case, the modem is not being detected (unidentified) and is therefore
unusable.

Not sure of that, but searching Google using

PNPB02F

brings up lots of things. looks like it could be a joystick port?

If you open the properties of the unknown device under the Details tab there
should be a dropdown box with Hardware IDs

What are the numbers/letters after VEN_ and DEV_

for examlpe VEN_109E&DEV_036E

about 60-70% of the time a google search of these two feilds will tell you
approximatly what it is.

After a quick search I found this on google...

Device Properties:
Driver Description Standard Game Port
Driver Date 23/09/1998
Driver Version 5.0.0.0
Driver Provider Microsoft
INF File gameport.inf
Hardware ID ACPI\PNPB02F
PnP Device Game Port Joystick

listed driver is for XP but game port drivers are generally generic you
should be able to add a manual driver for it.

On my 939 motherboard the unknown device went away after installing some
driver from the manufacturer. (some nvidia PCI root driver). It doesn't seem
to have any useful function (correct me if I'm wrong please).

ACP sounds like ACPI?
