Unwanted driver display

Posted: 03-04-2008, 04:03 PM
I have a Trust WB3240N HIRES webcam. This came with a driver on a DVD. Using
this driver, there is no problem with the camera.
Everytime Vista starts, it says that I have to download a driver to enable
the webcam to work. If I use the windows driver, I can't get the webcam to
work.

Also, I cannot get the error message to stop returning.

Go to Windows update, go to the choose updates screen if it isn't already
showing, right click on the driver update and select Hide update. It
shouldn't bother you again.

Thank you for trying to help, I do not have a choose update screen in VISTA.
This will block the notification, but is not a cure. Should I be looking at
putting this problem to Microsoft for rectification.

It's in Windows Update where you get that option. But maybe I misunderstood
your problem. If Windows Updates keeps offering a driver that you don't want
to install and don't want to be notified about then you would disable it the
way I described. It could be that in your case the driver that you are using
did not install properly or was not certified for Vista and Vista is trying
to correct the situation by installing the updated driver..... Vista
initially misidentified my own webcam and consequently installed the driver
for a different model... The way to proceed would be to first uninstall the
existing webcam driver, following all the manufacturer's instructions
explicitly, and then re-install it from scratch. You might get better
results if you run the driver installer as Administrator (right click,
select Run as Administrator).
