Update wiped out settings

Posted: 10-27-2006, 06:37 AM
I can't quite figure out why a windows update would wipe out my settings for
Firefox and Netscape and wipe my quick start area and my sidebar gadgets.
The updates were for Windows Defender(which I'm not even allowing to run on
this computer) and for my wireless Microsoft mouse. I guess that's why they
call it a beta. Unless that's the way it's going to be set to run things.
So annoying. I had Netscape set for my husband with his home pages,
bookmarks, and personnal toolbar. It was wiped clean and had to be set up
again. Same with Firefox for me. Anybody have any insight why it would
behave this way. I can't understand why Vista would mess with my user
settings.

Sorry, but i'm not using this products. SideBar i used, but never whas wiped
up, and i turned it off, becose they consume much memory or performence.

Settings are stored in registry. Maybe this whas from error when creating
restore point, that is created every time you update from Windows Update.

I only may suggest you to restore setting for restore point, if that not
help you must resetup this programs. For this is creating restore point, if
somethings got bad.

This may be only random error.
I see only one solusion: "Restore by restore point before update, and do
reupdate".

LOL, but my point is that it better not behave this way in release cuz I'm
not going to be fighting a battle everytime the program updates it's silly
defender files. I wasn't asking if I could run Sidebar, quick start,
Firefox, or Netscape. Geez. My point is that this is pretty aggressive
behavior if that is the way it's going to behave.
