Upgrade Win 2000 to XP

Posted: 07-10-2003, 07:17 AM
I have some machines in my office that are running Windows
2000 and some that are running Windows XP Pro. I am also
running Windows 2000 Server on the common file server.
Should I upgrade the Windows 2000 machines to Windows XP
Pro? Why or why not? Are there any compatablity issues
between the 2 OS environments? Is networking them together
a problem?
Thank you.

Why, indeed? Do you have any reason other than a desire to spend $$?

No, a server is a server and a workstation is a workstation, and IAC
Win2K Server can handle a wide range of client workstations. There's
absolutely no advantage to upgrading the server just on the basis of
having a mix of client workstations.

So unless you can identify something specific you want from the server
upgrade, well, then again: Why do it?

No.

There is no reason why you should not do so - but no particular reason
why you should, unless you in due course buy new machines with XP and
want to achieve a uniform system on all (Though they would mix on the
net without trouble)
