upgrades

When updating windows, after scanning for updates, I show
no critical updates to install, but eight (8) windows
updates. "Windows XP (8)"

But when I select on this, "Windows XP(8)",I again get
the window "Welcome to Windows Update", and the selection
to "Scan for updates". If I select to "Scan for updates",
it scans again, showing there are no critical updates,
but eight (8) windows updates. It will continue in this
loop forever.

If there are ever any critical updates, it will install
these fine without going into a loop.

Any help would be appreciated.

If I understand your post correctly - the Windows Updates you are seeing
aren't Critical Updates. They are updates unrelated to security which
you *might* want, like a new Windows Media Player or DirectX 9 or the
like. If you don't want to see something after you've decided it's not
for you (the .NET stuff for instance), then click on "Personalize
Windows Update".

I recently had to do a complete system restore. I am now trying to update my
windows, media player, sansa mp3 player and other things. When I finally get
to the download button and click on it, it says page cannot be diplayed. I
have currently not installed my virus protection software, so I don't think
it is that conflicting. Please help me!

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation

You may need method 2.

> I recently had to do a complete system restore...

=> Pick one:

1. You used Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System
Restore in hopes of correcting a problem;

2. You did a Repair Install; or

3. You used the hidden Recovery partition or the CD that came with the
machine to reinstall Windows.

=> Right click on My Computer | Properties | What Windows version is
displayed here?
