Upgrading from Windows 2000 Pro with a non upgrade copy

Posted: 07-08-2003, 04:09 PM
I just finally got to have a copy of Windows XP Pro for use here at work.
Problem is that the company got a full install version and not an upgrade
copy.

I'm running Windows 2000 Pro right now and of course the thing says it won't
upgrade. Is there any way around this? I'd really rather not have to
completely reformat my hard drive and spend all the time to reinstall large
apps like Office, Visual Studio, SQL, and all those other little ones I use
everyday.

Any pointers would be really appreciated.

Apparently, you have an "OEM version" of Windows XP Pro.
This version cannot upgrade over an existing Windows installation.
The only solution is to reformat your drive and then install it, or
install a new hard drive as a slave and dual-boot W2K with XP Pro.
