You cannot bypass the problem.

You must purchase the "Full English Version" of Windows XP,
reformat your drive and install it "clean". The alternative is to
create a dual-boot configuration which requires an available,
empty partition. You can purchase and use Partition Magic 8
(www.powerquest.com) to accomplish this.

Thanks for the replies!! I guess the fresh install is the
only way to use this upgrade that I bought unless I can
sell it and find the Spanish version upgrade. Bob, the
reason I am upgrading is that I have 7 computers that I
need to connect to this machine in the network and I
understand that with home edition you are limited to only
5 simultaneous connections? Is this in error? or do I need
professional in this case?
Thank both of you guys again for your help.
