Uppper & lower case folder names on USB device

I attach the device to my XP Pro PC. I create seevral folders and I
name them. Win Explorer shows the names are all in lower case.
But when I detach the device and look through the folders, some are in
uppercase and some are in lower case.
I find i can't write lower case to the folders with upper case names.
Is this problem something I can correct in XP?
