Urgent help needed. Cipher Strength.

Posted: 12-19-2007, 03:24 PM
Hi,

In Vista Business I need to change the cipher strength. I know I can change
it in gpedit.msc, Under Computer Configuration in Group Policy Object Editor,
expand Administrative Templates, expand Network, expand SSL Configuration
Settings, and then click on SSL Cipher Suite Order, Click Enabled in the
first tab, then click on the Explain tab.

However I am unsure what to enter.
I need it to be setup as cipher strength 128.

What do i need to type in ?

What exactly are you trying to achieve? Are you trying to make sure that you
use only 128-bit crypto when you go to an SSL enabled web site? You don't get
to chose that. The organization that paid for the cert for the web site gets
to chose that.

You can do exactly what the explain text says and remove any of the suites
that have _EXPORT* or _DES_ in the name and your computer will fail to
negotiate with any computer that presents a cert with one of those
algorithms. However, Windows will always pick the strongest cipher supported
by both parties to the transaction.
