USB 2.0 hard drive problems

Posted: 01-17-2004, 03:31 PM
I purchased a Fantom 120 G external USB hard drive for my
HP Pavillion 5300 notebook. The drive is distorting all
the clip art on the drive and all music on the drive is
distorted also. I have tried using a powered hub and
reformatting but no joy. I have heard that camera
drivers can interfere with USB hard drive but one is not
connected at this time and there are no conflicts in the
device manager. Before I formated and lost quite a bit
of data, the drive was duplicating folders and deleting
others. It was also creating folders with strange
symbols in the name that could not be opened and either
had 0 bytes in them or deveral Gigs. Thanks in advance
for any help.

A linn

Does it do this on JUST your computer or any computer?

The reason I ask is because it is entirely possible it is a USB Hard Drive
problem and nothing to do with your PC.

It is just on my computer. The drive works ok on my Dell
desk top at home. I get the following error when
accessing the drive...
Mircosoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime error!
Program: c\WINDOWS\explorer.exe
abnormal program termination
