USB 2.0 pop-up when starting printer

Posted: 09-26-2007, 05:28 PM
Whenever I turn on my printer, Vista pops up a message that it can look for a
faster connection. I do not have a faster connection. How can I stop this?
There is no "do not show me this" box to check off.

Is it possible your printer is plugged into a USB1 port, not USB2? Any USB
ports you have on your keyboard or monitor may not be USB2. Similarly, if
you have a USB hub, that may only be USB1 too. It's best to always go for
the ports on the back of your computer for things like printers that'll be
permanently connected. Unless your motherboard is quite old these will
almost certainly be USB2.

I only have USB1 ports. I know they are slower. I just want the pop-up to go
away.

Yea, I use a KVM that has only USB 1.1 so get the same issue with my
printer as it is connected to the KVM. To make the annoying message go away
go to device manager and select any usb hub, right click it and select
properties, go to advanced and check the box that says "don't tell me
about USB errors", click ok and you will nmo longer see that message.
Selecting any USB hub will apply to all USB hubs so you only need to do
that once. I don't notice any printing speed difference between USB 1.1
and 2.0 anyway.

Actually, I just unchecked the "tell me if" box, but thanks for steering me
in the right direction.

Actually, I just had to uncheck the box that said "tell me if a device can
perform faster", but thanks for steering me in the right directio.
