I have joined the ASUS Forum to post my query shown below. However, I have
failed to find the way for doing so. Hence, my query goes to this Microsoft
newsgroup that I trust is appropriate. If not, please advise which newsgroup
I should post my query to.
Query for ASUS Forum:
My USB 2.0 ports are not recognized as Hi-Speed ports
Connecting my LaCie external hard drive, design by F.A. Porsche, having
these specs:
· Maxtor 6Y160P0, 160 GB, formatted as FAT 32 volume, Interface
Transfer Rate: 480 Mbits/s
to a USB 2.0 port (Intel 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2658
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2658&SUBSYS_80A61043&REV_03\3&115 83659&0&E8)
on my PC having these specs:
· Win XP, Version 5.1.2600, SP 2, ASUS P5GD1-VM, BIOS Version/Date:
American Megatrends, Inc. 1005.005, 05/08/2004, SMBIOS Version 2.3, Intel
LGA775 Pentium 4 CPU
results in these messages:
"This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0
port.
HI-SPEED USB Device Attached to non-HI-SPEED Hub.
The USB Mass Storage Device is a HI-SPEED device and will function at
reduced speed when plugged into a non-HI-SPEED port.
There are no HI-SPEED USB host controllers installed on this computer.
Recommendation:
The USB Mass Storage Device will function at reduced speed. You must add a
HI-SPEED USB host controller to this computer to obtain maximum
performance."
Please, advise the steps I should do to obtain maximum performance (transfer
rate) with the external drive connected.
Thank you,
Vlad
