USB behavior

Posted: 12-06-2003, 02:22 AM
I have an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe motherboard, which has 4
onboard USB 2.0 capable ports, and another 4 that can be
broken out into a drivebay (which I don't have installed).

The 4 onboard ports work mostly as expected with one
major flaw: Devices have to be plugged into the ports
when the machine boots to be recognized. If I plug
something into the port after booting, the ports are
dead, and nothing gets recognized. If I plug a self-
powered USB hub into the port at boot time, all ports on
the hub are fine too.

I tried to install the USB drivers from the mboard CD,
but it says that I don't need to install because the
drivers are native in XP (Windows XP Pro is installed).

Anyone seen this behavior? How do I tell if USB 2.0
capable drivers are installed in XP?

Thanks!
