USB camera install problem - still looking for an answer.

I have an Olympus C4100Z digital camera which I connect to my USB port.
Everything I have read indicates that XP supports this device without any
additional drivers; in fact, Olympus offers no such drivers.
However, when I hook up the camera, the "Found New Hardware Wizard" screen
comes up with "Cannot Install this Hardware....etc" "An error
occurred....etc."
and then: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."
Of course, my first question is, what service are they talking about?

Anyway, I click finish, and the interesting part begins. The camera appears
in "My Computer" and in Device Manager as a removable drive, assigned a
drive letter and as far as I can tell it is fully functional. Sometimes
there is a yellow "Bang!" symbol next to the listing in Disk Drives in
Device Manager, which of course tells me that the device drivers were not
installed for this item.

Problems like this annoy me, even though it is only kind of a half problem.
I would like to see that stinking error message go away and lose the "Bang!"

Olympus digital cameras do show up as hard drive letters because they take
advantage of the MS (mass storage ) driver. So that part is correct and why
you don't have to install any drivers yourself.

Why the device bangs out now and again sounds more like a connection
problem. If you are plugging the camera via a USB hub - don't. Plug it
directly in to the computer. Have you tried plugging the camera into another
USB port on your computer?

I always recommend users not connect their cameras to their computers as it
would be much faster to use a card reader. Then there is no hassle of timing
issues that may come up, or connection problems.

Thanks Michael.
This may seem like a strange question, but define "hub". Okay, really, I
know what a hub is, kind of. I have a powered Belkin 4 port hub for my old
computer.
But on my new computer there are: 4 USB ports in the back; one in the front
which is part of a 6-in-1 device (4 way card reader, floppy drive and USB
port); and two more in the front under a flip up door that says "USB".
(Under this door are also two audio connectors, but we can ignore them.)
So, do any of the ports in the front qualify as "hubs"?
Anyway, I will try one of the rear USB ports to see what happens.
BTW, my card reader is dreadfully slow compared to my camera. At least, it
seems that way to me.
