USB card reader causing lock down...

I have two laptops both running WinXPpro. When I plug in
a multi-card reader into one, it works fine. On the
other however, it locks down the computer and
browsing "my computer" has to restart over and over...

Eventually, (when I unplug the device) Windows will go
back to normal.

I thought my USB device was bad, until I got this new
laptop and it works perfectly on it.

Both systems are up-to-date with P4 technology and a
boatload of ram... 512mb, as well as all current critical
updates.

Was just wondering if anyone out there has any advice on
how to go about taking care of this issue.
