The USB Controller is missing in the device manager

I am running Windows XP Pro but the usb port seems not
working. I checked the hardware device manager but the USB
controller is missing on the list. Is this the reason why
the CD Rom using using USB Cable doest not working
eventhough software drivers are already installed?

Pls help.
