Default USB Device unknown

Ever since I installed the worm patch from Microsoft, my
palm device is unrecognized in my USB hub. I have contacted
Palm and worked with them, they recommended a patch for the
problem. Does anyone know where that patch is?

Thanks

Default USB device unknown

I recently upgraded from an IBM laptop to a Dell laptop,
both running XP. I took my Samsung A500 cellular and USB
data cable and device drivers from the IBM to the Dell. I
never had an issue with the IBM but I do with the Dell.

First the device drivers for the Samsung cellular are
exploded and loaded then the cell and usb data cable can
be connected to the laptop. At that point, XP is just
popping up 'unknown usb device'; whereas, XP should popup
with the "Found New Hardware Wizard"-find Samsung modem
and usb device, search and install the drivers. The end
result should have 2 new entries in the Device Manager -
one under Modems for the Samsung CDMA modem and one under
USB for the Samsung USB composite device. However, all
that I'm getting is 'unknown device' showing up in Device
Manager. At that point, I tried to reinstall and update
the driver and it couldn't find any drivers (even though I
pointed it to C:\Program Files\Samsung CDMA\Drivers\ where
the *.inf and *.sys files are located). So then I tried
to uninstal the Samsung device drivers and reinstal but
had the same issue.

I have local administrative access to the system. The USB
port is functioning, as my Palm Pilot works. I have
insured that the Palm HotSync Manager is not running on
Startup for this install. I cannot think of what else to
do. And the fact that the same driver, cable and cellular
work on the IBM...I am left to wonder if it is an issue
with the Dell and the Samsung but can't be sure. I'm
wondering if there is some other issue I am missing
regarding XP system and if I could be directed on any
other troubleshooting steps to follow?
