USB ERROR For WXP SP1a

Posted: 02-23-2004, 08:21 PM
I have Windows XP SP1a. When I plug in my SONY USB flash
disk, I get a error message saying "HI-SPEED Device
Plugged into Non-Hi-Speed USB Hub", I have the latest XP
service pack. What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks.
Tim.

Providing you do actually have USB2.0 ports on your motherboard..... right
click on My Computer and select Properties..... in the Hardware tab, click
on Device Manager.... scroll down to the USB Controllers entry and click on
the + to expand the tree...

For each USB port, doubleclick.... and use Update Driver.

If you only have USB1.1 ports on your motherboard, then you cannot
automatically update 1.1 to 2.0. You must purchase a USB2.0 PCI (or PCMCIA
if a notebook) card.

I tried that and it didn't work. I had W2K before I
updated to WXP and it worked ok. Who knows?
Thanks for your help. Tim.

If the PC was purchased back in the days of Windows 2000 then you have
USB1.1 ports, NOT USB2.0 ports.

Purchase a USB2.0 PCI card.

And what if I just purchased a computer with a brand new
motherboard with usb 2.0 ports and put windows xp pro
with sp1 on it and I went on the bios and enabled usb 2.0
and it still reads HI-SPEED Device Plugged into Non-Hi-
Speed USB Hub? Then what?? I did what you wrote the
first time and no go. My device I'm trying to use is a
hi-speed usb device with the correct cables. You have an
answer for that?

Did you install the motherboard drivers when you installed XP Pro... you
know, from the CD that comes with the new motherboard?

Try installing the usb 2.0 drivers from the manufacturer. Just because you
upgraded from win2k doesn't mean you bought the computer in 2000.

Make sure no 1.1 devices are plugged in with it. Install manufacturers
driver. Sp1 does not have drivers for all usb 2.0 controllers . Sp1 is
required before you can install usb2.0 drivers.

Check the KB and sony site. I seem to recall having seen this issue floating
around.
