USB modem don't work well ( usbuhci.sys problem?)

Hello
I have Win XP Pro (italian) with SR1 installed.
My external USB modem is not working properly, the connection breaks
very soon... I've read I'd have the usbuhci.sys file updated to
version 5.1.2600.28, but actually I have the 5.1.2600.1106 version
(older).
I think that file 'd be the problem, but I don't know how to update
it, and why I have an old version also after upgrading XP...
