Use XP Driver For DVD?

Posted: 07-03-2006, 08:07 PM
I've been reading through all the posts having to do with the "missing
driver" issue during the initial part of Vista install. I've tried all the
workarounds that I can find, but still can't get past that step. The one
item I haven't seen addressed is using a generic driver.

I have a 3 year old NEC DVD drive and a newer Sony drive. My normal setup
is with the NEC drive as the master on the primary IDE channel. When I check
the poperties of that drive in device manager in XP, it is just using a
generic Microsoft DVD driver. How do I go about getting that driver (and
whatever other files associated with it) on a floppy for the Vista install?
This seems like a reasonable workaround, unless I'm missing something obvious.

Thanks!
