User Account Administration with XP pro

Posted: 12-15-2003, 10:41 PM
I posted this in the configuration_manage group the other day and still have
no replies. I am hoping someone else can answer this

I would like to know, is it possible on a multiple XP Pro peer-to-peer LAN
network to set one computer with the login account administatin for all the
pc's in the group? Or do I have to use 2000 or 2003 server to do this?

If it is possible, what do I need to do to set it up so that my pc acting
mainly as a small network file server also has all this info?

Thanks.

A peer to peer doesn't you a directory of accounts. Peer to peer you need
to manage your accounts locally and grant other users right to you machine.
So to answer your question is No.

Hello,

You need a domain for this. So, you need a server edition, Windows 2000 or
Windows Server 2003

If you want to share the resources located on "admin" PC, setup the shares on this PC for every other PC on a network. If your resources are the folders with data, find the program that would protect your folder with the password, so, it could be the same for everyone. If you have the resources accessed through the web page, set up the password to access your web page (JavaScript, JavaApplet, or any encryption software)
However, if you think that PC can act as a server, the answer is NOT.
