Hi,

The folders are not created until someone logs into the account.

The user profile folder for a new account will not be created until
you've actually logged in using that account. Have you done that?

Hello Carlo

After you have created the new user account for the first time, yo
will need to log on to that new account first for Vista to create th
C:\Users\(user name) folder and setup that account's desktop

Hope this helps

Hi Shaw

Thanks for your help and your feedback
The information that you provided cured my problem

I have another question in the same area
My standard user account is wrongly displayed
In Explorer it shows C:\Users\User instead of C:\Users\my name
I tried to change it via the configurationscreen but the changes won'
take effect after altering. I can type my desired name for that account
but afterwards it doesn't appear so in Explorer
And this is my account where I'm usually log in with, so your previou
described method won't help in this case
Do you have any other suggestions

Best regards Carl

Carlo

The C:\Users\(User Name) folder cannot be renamed. You can rename th
account, but it will not change the user folder name, then both use
names are associated with that account

The only way to rename the C:\Users\(user name) folder is to create
new account with a name that has not been used with the other one, the
'*delete the old user account*
(http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/93...nt-delete.html). :

Hope this helps

The user profile folders (C:\Users\Username) _cannot_ be renamed,
without risky registry editing, even if the associated user account has
been renamed, which isd what I surmise you did. So, if you don't really
want to restore the machine to its original, ex-factory state, your best
course of action would be to log on using the built-in Administrator
account, create a new user account, with the username desired. Once
you've logged in using this new account (and transfered any data you
need to preserve, you can then delete the old user account(s).

Hi Shaw

Before I do anything I want to know a few things
1) is it possible after deleting this account and SAVING the content o
that usernames folder to the desktop, to copy everything into a ne
account with the correct username and keep every setting? (deskto
settings, folder settings...
I spend many hours in adjusting everything to my needs and preferences
and I just want those settings to be taken over in that other accoun
without any loss

2) before doing any damage, is it possible to copy content of th
account I want to delete to another account without deleting th
account
And than when everything seems ok than delete the account I want to b
deleted

I'll wait for your answer before commencing, regard
Carl

Carlo

You can copy all of the contents of the old C:\Users\(user name
folders into the new accounts corresponding folders to retain mos
settings, but you will not be able to retain all of them though. :

Yes, I would wait until after you have everything copied over to th
new account and have verified all is ok before deleting the old use
account
