User account - Renaming Issue.

Old 04-12-2008, 12:30 AM   #1 (permalink)
Default User account - Renaming Issue.

I wish to rename my user on Vista Business

My current user is called "Sparow", missing an extra "r"

I followed the path
- Control Panel\User Accounts\User Account

And used the "Change your account name" option to change the name o
the account to "Sparrow" (Including an extra "r")

Now change this shows on my login screen and when clicking on th
windows button on the start menu

But, when accessing the director
- C:\User

The user is displayed as "Sparow" (That's the original Sparrow withou
two "r"'s
- C:\Users\Sparo

Is it because this was the original account name and it cannot b
changed
What options do I have

Are they: To somehow edit the name of this account, Create a new use
with the correct spelling of my name and copy the files across, or an
other soloution

I know it sounds like a trivial query - but it means something to me

Thank you for your time, it's much appreciated and any help would b
great
-Sparrow

Hi Sparrow,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

The only way to change your "C:\Users\(user name)" folder name is to
create a new administrator account with the name you want. You may need
to change the name of the old account first so you can use "Sparrow" for
the new one. Next, logon to the new account and delete the old one in
User Accounts in the Control Panel. When you are deleting the old one,
you will have the option to "Keep Files". This will save the contents of
the old account's user folders into a folder on the new account's
desktop.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
