hi!

i have some problems with user accouts on my computer with winxp. i always
use the computer only as an administrator without creating any account but
this time i created one and now i would like to delete it and return to work
as an old administrator. for now its impossible. i cant delete new user, i
cant log as an admnistrator with normal system start.
how can i restore default logging as an administrotor? i tried to change
configuration in boot.ini with bootcfg but i didnt work. its possible that i
had wrong syntax

please help me with that

regards
Andre

Hi Andre

You should really only use the original Administrator's Account for
troubleshooting. To logon as the Admin, press Ctrl-Alt-Del twice at the
Welcome screen. You could then create a new Account for yourself with
Admin. privileges.

Hi Andre

Your PC could be a security risk if you use the original Admin Account.
However, type or copy/paste the following into Start>Run

control userpasswords2

and then uncheck 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer.'. Click Apply - you will have to know the Administrator's
password at this stage. Follow the onscreen prompts.

You can logon automatically if you create an account with Admin. privileges:

From Start>Run type in

control userpasswords2

then uncheck 'Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer' and click 'Apply'. On the next screen - 'Automatically Log On' -
delete the name 'Administrator' from the User name box and enter your
account name and then the password in the next two boxes. OK your way out
and then reboot your system.

1. Downloaded SP-2
2. Had Admiistrator / Limited User problems upon boot.
Only the Administrator would boot up.
3. My problem is I now have lost Administrator function,
I cannot use system restore, I cannot reload XP because I
downloaded SP-2.

Bottomline my computer has no administrator, only "Limted
User capability. Can anyone help?

Have you tried to log into Safe Mode yet? You should then be able to log
into the Administrator account. Once you have Administrator rights you
should be a able to change those of other accounts to Administrator too.
Also, you can use Tweak UI to force Administrator to show up on the welcome
screen, if you don't want to change the present account(s). Just look under
Logon in Tweak UI. You can download it from:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...s/default.mspx

Nik

PS. For those used to using Tweak UI in earlier versions of Windows, it no
longer shows up in the Control Panel. You have to find it under 'PowerToys
for Windows XP' on the Start Menu.

I am using windows xp pro sp2. All of a sudden certain changes have appeared
in my pc. User accounts screen is blank. Another entry called administrator
has appeared in the administrators group. I seem to have lost my adm. rights.
Help and support centre is also not working. Please help.

Devashish,

See if a System Restore rollback fixes the problem:

In configuring my user accounts I have been left with only two accounts,
a named account and a guest account. Neither the named account or the
guest account is designated "administrator" what have I done and how can
I fix it? When I select each account to modify it, there are no options
to change the account type from limited to administrator.

Hi Howard,

This is where the hidden account called 'Administrator' comes in. Boot,
hitting F8 as BIOS info goes to black to get the Menu and take Safe
Mode. That should then at 'Welcome' include an icon for
'Administrator'; if not hit CTL-ALT-DEL twice to get a logon dialog,
enter the explicit name Administrator and assume that password is null,
Enter immediately. From that, Start - Run type

control userpasswords2

and you can select any user account, or create new accounts, and Reset
Passwords.
