User folder hidden

Posted: 02-26-2008, 12:50 AM
Hi all,

Just recently I have found that my Music folder is no longer being indexed,
and as part of my investigation I have found that my User folder
"C:\Users\amahon" is now hidden (where the rest of the user folders show up
just fine). I wonder if this is messing around with the indexing service,
and would like to know how I can make my User folder visible again.

I'm running Vista Business joined to a Domain (my user account is also a
Domain admin).

Hope someone can help.

Sorry if this is stating the obvious or not answering your question, but go
to c:\users\, right click your user folder, uncheck hidden, click ok.

Hi there, i'm having the same issue on my domain. I'm running Windows
Vista Ultimate x64 on a Windows Server 2003 DC environment. The users
folder on my vista machine is hidden, if i go into the folder manually
and try to untick hidden its greyed out. Not sure if some form of group
policy has been applied? Also my domain account is hidden and i'm the
domain admin. But normal domain user accounts are showing in the folder.
Please help? Thanks

User Folder Hidden
Posted: 07-02-2008, 04:11 AM
This morning I brought my PC out of Sleep mode to find that when I logged in
all my settings and files where gone.
When I opened Explorer to the C:\Users folder I couldn't see my User folder.
After logging out and logging in on the Administrator user I found that the
User Folder for my user had become a 'protected system folder'.
I tried using the DOS command 'ATTRIB' to remove the Hide attribute but it
failed.
After that I tried a couple of things, one of which seems to have worked:
1. I changed the Username to a new Username, however the folder name did not
change.
2. I explicitly set the 'Local Path' in the User Properties
3. I enabled Explorer to see both hidden and protected system files and
folders

How do I reset the folder and subfolder/files attributes back to the way
they were?
Any ideas as to how this might have happened?

Best regards,
Spike
