| When I installed vista I'm getting crazy CPU usage of around 40% on a dual core 2.6ghz A64 w/ 2GB of ram This seems really off, for sitting at the desktop doing nothing. It's the explorer process that's using the CPU power. Any idea's on the issue? | Guest

| Open Control Panel (set to Classic View) > Indexing Options > Advanced (I can't remember off the top of my head right now, but you should see an option there to uncheck it. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta "Joel Barsotti" <joelbarsotti@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:%23vJNwJCgGHA.3900@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... | I've disable search and it looks like all my indexing is turned off and explorer is taking up like 90% cpu usage. Any idea why the explorer process could take up so much cpu? "Zack Whittaker" <admin@zacknet.co.uk> wrote in message news:ODMfBwCgGHA.4864@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... Quote:

| I just installed Windows Vista Beta 2 and found it totally unusable because the CPU utilization is at 100% at the desktop without doing anything. It takes an agonizingly long time to do anything else because all the CPU is already being used. I'm running on an Intel 2.8Ghz Pentium D 820, with 1GB of Memory. I'm not able to explore the new features of Vista because it's virtually impossible to do anything with the CPU at 100%. So far from suggestions I've seen I've turned off sidebar and stopped the search and defender services, still a problem, as most people have noted it's explorer.exe consuming most of the CPU. | Guest
