Very Odd Networking Issues

I had an issue where I got a stop error; the blue screen said something about
a Policy violation, something along those lines I didn’t write it down. I
got the same error 3 or 4 times in a row before I got the machine to boot
normally under debug mode I think. Anyhow I didn't make any changes or
install anything; so I was surprised to get that error and my network
connection was down. It has worked perfectly since I installed Ultimate
32-bit a week ago. I'm not running any 3rd party firewall software and I
reset the hub I have it plugged into (off brand no name) and I reset my
Linksys (router/wap 802.11b) I know that’s an older one and could be an
issue but I doubt it.

I've got at Core 2 Duo; running on an Intel 965WH board; I downloaded the
update software for the chipset after the first installation of Vista. I
also have the bios updated and the only device that isn't recognized was a
game port driver on my audigy. So I there are no known driver issues; I just
disabled the device.

I've disabled and re-enabled the network card in the control panel a few
times. Its sending packets but getting none back; I can get on the wireless
connection and wired no problem on other computers, my I-Book, and my 360
play just fine with my network. Now here is where it gets really odd; I've
tried to diagnose and repair the issue. This has worked before too, when I
first setup my machine I just clicked on that and I was on the internet no
problem after that. I got an error message about the diagnose and repair
needing some program to run and it pops up another window and I right click
and tell it to start the application it tells me I needed to have running and
I get an access denied error. I am an admin Im the only one on the comp I
have no restrictions. I tried to do a diagnose and repair under safe and
debug mode, but I guess you can't run it in a safe mode.

No problem I'll just go back to a restore point; this is where I discovered
that auto update had installed a few updates that I was un-aware of. I
thought this was the problem, and I've been unable to get the computer to
restore to a previous point. I've tried 4 different points and it goes
through the motions and 10-30 minutes later I get an error message telling me
that the restore failed.

Went into start-up repair to check for some random error; none are found.
So I went to just re-install Vista it gets part way into the install and then
it gives me an error about drivers for my DVD rom not being found. I have a
TDK-DVD burner its an older one, but its the same one I used to install Vista
the first time. And this is where I stand currently; very confused and
frustrated I really really don't want to re-format my machine, but it looks
like that’s what I'm going to have to do. I'm also guessing that this could
be an issue as a result of doing and upgrade install from XP instead of a
fresh install to Vista.

Also I'm not running any P2P software like some of the people that are
having issues have posted. No bittorent downloading of pirated stuffs just
regular old boring stuff.

Normally, Blue screen mean hardware issue. Have you check the computer compatibility with Vista?

I ran the software from the Microsoft Website to check for any issues and the
only one I found pre-installation was Nero 6 so i just un-installed it and
that was that. I only had gotten that blue screen last night. Every other
time I had something freeze up on me I didn't get any error messages, I would
just reboot. My thought process is that I'm just going to re-format and go
with a fresh install. Which in my opinion sucks; as I already invested
several hours in the first install now I'm going to have to back up more crap
and waste more time on something that may not work. I did order a newer
router as I read that some of the older routers dont work so well with Vista.

I'm assuming since you started the failed reinstallation that you can't boot
to Vista at all now? If so, you probably will have to reinstall from
scratch. Sorry, but it was a huge mistake not to have noted the specific
error message on the blue screen, especially since you say you saw it 3
times. Without that, it would be wild speculation to even try to guess what
happened. It could be a hardware problem, a software compatibility issue, a
device drive issue, etc.
If you can boot, go to event viewer and look for what errors are recorded.
Post those here and it will give us something to work with.
