Virus deleted a sound/media file

Posted: 02-20-2004, 09:17 PM
A Virus removed a crucial sound file.Compared a friends
comp with XP pro and same sound card to see what file was
missing.Mixer/volume control missing

I dont have system restore enabled

Legacy drivers are fine but xp says "no play back devices"
areas greyed out

Tried system repair w/disc but I didnt seem like there
was "cmd" relative to the one missing file.

Used file scan to check for file integrity doesnt report
missing or corrupted file.

Is there anyway to restore the file w/o having to re-
install xp?
