Vista 5600 can't see machines outside workgroup...

Posted: 09-10-2006, 11:45 AM
I just upgraded my machine from 5472 to 5600 and have some weird network
problems.

My PC is in a network workgroup on my home network but I need to access
machines in the domain at my office. My home network is connected to the
office using IPSEC tunnel on my home router which seems to be working just
fine. Despite having access to machines in that network and subscribing to
the domain WINs server, my 5600 Vista client won't see ANY machines outside
of the local workgroup.

I can "ping" them by name from the command prompt but that is it.

Any ideas?

Similar situation here except I'm running PPTP. Diagnostics tell me
192.168.1.1 is currently online. I've tried turning off the local firewall
but that makes no difference. When I boot from Windows XP there's no problem.

Any ideas?

I also tried setting up a VPN connection but that did not help. It is
almost like there is some setting someplace that says "ignore all machines
outside my workgroup" that the command line commands ignore but everything
inside the windows environment pays attention to.

It is REALLY annoying because Outlook can't find the Exchange server in my
office.
