Vista 64 & Sony video camera

Unable to connect my Sony DCR-PC110E video camera via it's firewire
connection to my Vista 64 machine.
Contacted Sony, who responded as follows:
" Dear Mr Shields

I am sorry to say Sony do not supply drivers for firewire connctivity, this
is done by the software vendor of the DV package or by Microsoft.

If anybody has a suggestion that can help me, it would be greatly appreciated
