His board:

The memory remap function cannot explain this. Lets say the MMIO space
is 1GB in size. Without remapping, he would then loose 1 GB, not 4.

Well, I have a Vista Ultimate 32 bit, it only shows 2.98G of RAM prio
to my updates to SP1. After SP1 it now shows 4.0G or RAM..

That problem doesn't apply to the 64-bit version.

MS made the change in SP1 to show all the memory installed instead of how
much is available to applications other then those that use hardware with
their own installed memory such as graphics cards and the buffer space
required to use them.

In at least some motherboards (a random one a client had, I didn't take
notes) no memory after the hole is visible to the OS.

In that case, it wouldn't hurt to take a run at a BIOS update too.
"Improved Memory Compatibility" probably means newer sticks of RAM, but
there could easily be compatibility issues with large amounts of memory
too, and the release notes are neither detailed, nor exhaustive.

Just sounds strange, because the hole doesn't go away even with
remapping, it just moves the overlapped ram up above it.

Yeah, but I think their thinking was that if the hole is in the
3.2GB-4GB range, users who don't care about that memory probably won't
care about the >4GB range at all.

I don't see anywhere in BIOS where I can change memory setting tha
really does anything. On one site, it said to match voltages but it's o
auto. So I sure would like to solve my problem I have Vista64 sp
Ultimate installed. Not 32
