Click Start > Control Panel > (set to Classic View) > open "System" > below
your product id click the link to activate windows, you should have a grace
period of 14 days which would become shorter since Vista was installed.

Click Start, right click on Computer, then click the activation link at the
bottom of the System Properties window. Make sure that you have an Internet
connection available so that it can activate though )

Default Vista activation

Does Vista (Ultimate) activate automatically?

I want to play with it without activating it to make sure everything works.
If it doesn't work right I will reinstall XP
and wait

Thanks

During install there is a box you can check to tell it not to automatically
activate. You'll have 30 days then which can be reset twice after that.
You can also install without entering a product key.

Vista does NOT Activate automatically, even though one checks the box for
that option. Once on the Desktop, one will have exactly 3 days to Activate
the product. I believe this to be a bug. If not, what happened to the 30
day grace period?

Default Vista activation

Hi

Can anyone advise me of the UK activation telephone number? Bought new PC
with XP Media Centre installed, tried 4 times to do upgrade to Vista, I'm
sure I don't need to tell anyone how much time that wasted, each time it fell
over about 3/4 of the way through, with and without the latest install
updates. Did a clean install and now when I try to activate online it tells
me I can't use the key that I have because it's for the upgrade version with
no email or telephone option. Ta.

Select the option to activate by phone and the appropriate number for your
region will be displayed.

No option displayed to activate by phone on the rejection screen when I try
online, is there a setting somewhere on my PC?
