| Just got a new computer with Vista on it....I have a storage device connected by a USB port. When I attempt to SAVE a document to the storage device, I get a message that "I do not have access privileges, see my administrator". I AM the administrator. I have a second device attached to a USB port that I can save to with no problem. Anyone have any idea where I might go to give myself permission to save documents to the external storage device???????? | Guest

The USB drive needs to be formated with NTFS instead of FAT32 if it is not. You can also try to take ownership of the USB drive. See Method Two in this tutorial for how. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67...ship-file.html Shawn -- brink *There are no dumb questions, just the people that do not ask them.* WWW.VISTAX64.COM (\"HTTP://WWW.VISTAX64.COM\") *Please post feedback to help others.* | Guest

| Shawn Thanks so much for your response. I am a seriouly "technology challenged" person and do not feel comfortable doing very much to the computer. However, I did check and the two storage devices (one is a segate 500gig device and the other is a firelite 60 gig). The firelite 60 gig is set as a FAT32 and I can save to it, the Segate 500 gig is set as NTFS and I get that message that I don't have permission to save to it. Is this significant? One other question, promise I won't continue to bug you with more questions. Is it a serious issue to turn off the Administrative Control? Its driving me crazy and I am ready to go back to XP Aaron Crimson Tide Fan "brink" wrote: Quote:

It's probably not a big deal to turn off User Account Control, but you never know. I've turned mine off because I am still installing hardware and applications on my machine. When I'm done "prepping" it for use, I will either (A) turn UAC back on, or (B) take away the administrative privilege on my user account. I can always put it back later, or simply logon as Administrator. | Guest
