Vista auto-reboot after install

I just installed Vista on my laptop (a Toshiba Satellite M40 if it makes any
difference)

Whenever I boot into vista, just after my mouse shows up, I get a BSOD and
the computer restarts. I don't know the error because it restarts too quickly
(any way I could fix this would be greatly appreciated, I cant do it the
normal way, because I cant even boot into safe mode).

Restart the computer and tap the F8 key to get the Advanced Boot Options
menu. Select the option to not Automatically restart on failure. Now it
might stop at the blue screen to show the error.

You could also run startup repair by booting from the Vista DVD.

A Stop error occurs, or the computer stops responding when you try to start
Windows Vista

Thank you, at least now I can see the error message.

I tried running a repair from the vista dvd and also doing a reinstall,
neither of which worked. The BSOD which I'm getting is this:

c000021a {Fatal System Error} ... status code 0xc0000001 (0x0000000 0x0000000)

I looked around on google, and the best I could find was to try updating the
bios, which I did, but didn't work.

Was this a custom install or an upgrade? If upgrade GoBack isn't installed,
is it? If not, and if this was an upgrade you can try a custom install.
Did you check with Toshiba to make you have all the Vista compatible
drivers? Other than that, I don't know what to suggest.

I thought of one other thing. Chad Harris has posted several times that he
has seen where running the startup repair several times was needed.

What I meant to ask was if it is an upgrade is GoBack installed. If not
then (rest of the previous reply)
